Drugs have been a recurring theme for interesting art in the last years. After ages of a certain puritanism, and writing about beauty, higher purposes and spiritual might, authors have finally started looking at the other end of the spectrum. Some transform the grit and brutality into art, while some make you want to drop the book and go peel yourself an apple. And then there are those inbetween...
Reading the blurbs made my hopes rather high for this book. I am, after all, notorious for liking books which can be interpreted, and change you as a person, instead of writing beautifully for the sake of beauty.
Often the drug addicts, bipolars, DID-ered folks depicted in books have amazing depth... I can honestly say I haven't been impressed by 'Clean''s characters. Despite having suffered from an eating disorder myself, I found the characters to be rather shallowly built-not someone you can pick apart and find something new about every time.
I wanted to say I like the technique used in writing, mainly depicting the rehab center through the patients' eyes, but given the rather plain character of them, I believe this writing method added to their blandness instead of sparking interest.
Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad book. I have rather high expectancies, after all. If you're into drug-related prose, you might find the pros weigh more than the cons, and you might be able to ignore the certain downsides, but for me, it didn't leave me with any taste in my mouth, so I'm giving it a 7/10.

I don't really do movies/series all that much, but if you suggest any medical themed thriller movies, you may just become my hero. Other than that, I happen to be a huge bookworm. I listen to anything from neofolk to black metal, to postpunk, basically whatever tickles my fancy.Lists
